Meet Ever Hernández, School Bus Driver and Taxi Driver
Tengo 37 años, soy de El Progreso y toda mi vida he vivido aquí. Me he dedicado a diferentes tipos de actividades de trabajo, como industrial en la máquina, construcción, en gasolineras, y como conductor. A través de todo este tiempo he adquiridos diferentes amistades, experiencias muy buenas, que me han permitido conocer un poco de la realidad que se vive en nuestro país y eso me permite ser una persona que puede expandir su conocimiento, aprender de las diferentes cosas que ha hecho.
Conocí a la organización cuando trabajaba como bombero en una gasolinera, para despachar el combustible. Pude conocer a sus líderes, Shin y su hermana Cosmo. Primero empecé como conductor de busito verde los sábados, y más adelante me dieron la oportunidad de trabajar también el domingo, los sábados por la noche. Y después de un año compraron un nuevo bus grande y necesitaban conductor para toda la semana y me lo ofrecieron a mi.
Mientras he estado desempeñando mis trabajos, el que más me ha gustado es el de conductor, y es el que me ha permitido estar cerca de SHH. Ser conductor me permite conocer a las personas y saber que nuestro país necesita de mucho esfuerzo para poder sobrellevar cada una de las adversidades que se presentan y poder tener fuerza y voluntad cada dia. He podido abrir los ojos para conocer un poco más la realidad de nuestro país con respecto la educación de nuestros hijos. Siempre he sabido que era limitada, pero nunca había podido palpar de forma personal y llegar a comunidades que tienen un mayor déficit para poder salir adelante, y es por eso que estando dentro de SHH que he podido entender que la labor social que la organización hace es un beneficio para nuestros niños, que al final de los proyectos al ver la alegría en ellos se puede uno dar cuenta que estos niños necesitan que se les ayude y que les abran oportunidades, que no las tienen de parte de nuestro país, y la organización por su apoyo y su colaboración en Honduras están dando esas oportunidades para que los niños tengan un futuro.
Lo que más me gusta de mi trabajo es la experiencia de poder compartir dentro de la organización todos los momentos del voluntariado que SHH trae de Estados Unidos, es lo que me motiva y me gusta de la organización, poder ver diferentes culturas, diferentes personalidades, razas, y entender que entre todo esta diversidad, siempre hay una misma misión, un mismo proyecto a continuar, que es el futuro para nuestros niños.
Disfruto manejando cualquiera de los vehículos, aunque el bus grande me gusta más porque tengo la oportunidad de compartir con todos los voluntarios y vivir la alegría del grupo, y de taxi porque me permite conocer a otras personas no sólo de la organización sino también locales. Como puedes ver, me encanta conocer a la gente y pues eso es mi historia.

I am 37 years old and I have lived in El Progreso, Honduras my entire life. I have done many different jobs such as industrial machine work, construction, at a gas station, and as a driver. Throughout my time working I have gained different friendships and good experiences that have allowed me to understand the reality of living in this country. This allows me to be a person that can expand their knowledge and learn from the different things that I have done.
I heard about the organization when I was working as a firefighter at a gas station, my job was to dispense fuel. I met the leaders, Shin and his sister Cosmo. I started as a driver of the old small green bus every saturday. Later I was given the opportunity to work Sundays as well and Saturdays at night. After one year, the organization bought a new big bus and they needed a driver for the weekdays and they offered the job to me.
In all of the jobs that I have had, the one that I have liked the best is being a bus driver, and that is what has allowed me to stay close to SHH. Being a driver allows me to meet people and understand that my country needs help dealing with the adversities that present themselves and to be able to have strength and will everyday. This job has opened my eyes to the reality of my country in respect to the education of our children. I always knew that education was limited, but I was never able to see it personally and arrive to communities that have a major deficit in their ability to move forward. It is because of that, my being with SHH, that I have been able to understand that the social labor that the organization does is a huge benefit for our kids. At the end of the project, seeing all the happiness in the kids it makes you realize that these kids needed our help and they need more opportunities which our country cannot give them. With the support of the organization and its collaboration with Honduras, we are giving the kids opportunities so that they can have a future.
My favorite thing about my work is the experience of being able to share so many moments with the volunteers from the US. It motivates me. I like that the organization lets me see different cultures, different personalities, different races, and understand that within all of this diversity, there is always the same mission and the same project being continued, which is the future for our kids.
I enjoy driving any vehicle, but the big bus is the one I like the most because it gives me the opportunity to share time with the volunteers and live in the happiness of the group. I also like driving the taxi because it allows me to meet not only people from the organization but also local people from El Progreso. As you can tell, I love meeting new people, and well that is my story.
