Meet Ever Guillen, Driver
“I was born in R. of Copán. My family moved but I still lived there. I used to come here to visit my mother in Siete de Abril. At one of the visits, I met Cosmo and Shin. They had started to build the houses and etc., but I went back to R, and lived there for about three years. When I returned, Villa Soleada and the projects had begun. Then, I started working as a mason’s assistant with Don Marco for almost a year. When they brought the little green bus, the old one, I spoke with Shin and asked him to give me the opportunity to drive it. However, I remember very well that he said, ‘No, I’m going to drive this little bus myself. But I do want to see you in this.’ And I began to drive the big yellow bus.
I had never thought I would drive a big car and thought, ‘How do I do this?’ The first time was very difficult for me. When I was taking the volunteers, I was bathed in sweat. But afterwards I gained more confidence, and now here I am. I like to drive the children from the Children’s Home and the (Villa Soleada) Bilingual School. It is difficult with children playing behind me, but children give such joy to one. I know the parents, and I feel happiness from the trust that they have in me to take care of their children on the trip. That is why I thank God and Shin.
I do not know what would have been my fate. Before, I was almost a drug addict. I drank. It was a time where I was lost in life. In R., I have been shot in many different parts of my body. Now, I’ve been working here for 7 years, and I left all my vices thanks to him. I would have never thought that when I came to look for my mother here that I would end up in this organization. I sincerely feel happy because if it were not thanks to this organization and I did not work for this organization… I do not know where I would be. Maybe I would be dead. Also, I am happy because I have my son and my wife with whom I have been since I started working here. Almost six years. My son is three and a half years old. I am grateful to God and am happy.”

“Nací en R. de Copán, mi familia se mudó pero yo seguí viviendo allí. Luego solía venir aquí a visitar a mi mamá a la colonia Siete de Abril, en una de las visitas conocí a Cosmo y Shin, empezaron a construir las casas etc. pero yo me volví a R. y viví allí unos tres años. Cuando regresé ya estaba la colonia de Villa Soleada y el proyecto empezado, entonces empecé a trabajar como ayudante de albañil con Don Marco por un año casi y luego cuando trajeron el busito verde, el viejo, hable con Shin y le pedí que me diera una oportunidad de conducir, pero yo recuerdo muy bien que él me dijo “no, este busito lo voy a conducir yo. Pero sí te quiero ver en este”, y empecé a conducir el bus amarillo grande.
Yo nunca había agarrado un carro grande y pensé y ¿ahora como hago?. La primera vez para mi fue costoso, llevaba a los voluntarios y me bañe de sudor. Pero después ya agarré más confianza y ahora aquí estoy. Me gusta conducir a los niños del hogar y a los de la escuela, es difícil con los niños jugando atrás pero a uno los niños lo alegran. Conozco a los padres y siento felicidad de la confianza que tienen en mi de dejarme cuidar de sus hijos en el viaje. Por eso doy gracias a dios y a Shin.
Yo nose que hubiera sido de mi sino, antes yo era casimente drogadicto, tomaba, era de lo más votado. En R. yo he sido baleado en diferentes partes de mi cuerpo. Ahora llevo 7 años trabajando aquí y deje mi vicio gracias a él. Nunca pensé que al venir a buscar a mi mamá aquí acabaría en la organización.
Yo sinceramente me siento feliz porque si no fuera gracias a la organización, si no laborara para la organización, no sé donde estaría, a saber, estubiera muerto. También feliz porque tengo mi hijo y mi esposa con la que llevo desde casi que empecé a laborar acá, como seis años. Mi hijo tiene tres años y medio ya también. Estoy agradecido con dios y feliz.”
