Meet Lindolfo Vasquez, Housefather at the Villa Soleada Children’s Home

“My name is Lindolfo Vasquez. I am from Morazán, Yoro. I am from a poor and humble, but fighting family. We keep our fighting spirit. We keep on moving forward. I would like to thank my father and mother. May they rest in peace. They instilled values in us on how to be good people. They have taught us to fight for our own lives, and so we are fighters to this day. We are a family of 15 brothers and sisters. Some of them have already passed.

I live here in B, one of the communities next to Villa Soleada. Before I started working here, I worked as a cashier at a gas station. In 2014, I talked with Shin, and he told me that I could work here in the Villa Soleada Children’s Home. He asked if I could help with boy’s soccer.  I liked doing this, so I quit working at the gas station to join this organization. SHH had nearly finished the Children’s Home. When the Director of the Children’s Home, Yalena, asked me to continue work here, I said yes because I enjoyed it. I have always been working with the youth. Youth with critical situations that needed help with drugs. I was giving charlas and lectures to them.  This was also an opportunity to help the kids here in the Children’s Home, so that they can grow up with a proper education and values. I feel fulfilled. It makes me feel more engaged, and more involved at the Children’s Home as well.

I liked this position because I am a soccer fanatic. In the past, I played soccer. I trained boys at a school. I was their coach, and I enjoyed it.  When I started to work for the Children’s Home, I saw that all the boys liked soccer. I liked working with them. Another thing that I like enjoy a lot is agriculture. My family worked a lot in agriculture. I liked that as well because with the boys whom I first worked with like K, E, and A, they also liked agriculture. It was nice to explain to them how it is done, and it helped me as well. I fell in love with my work and the Children’s Home. I enjoy what I do.

When I came Villa Soleada Children’s Home, I said I can do something. We can plant something. I mentioned to Yalena that we should prepare the soil. I saw that the earth was rich. I knew that it was good for the plants. I knew that it was good for bananas, and that we needed to clean the land.  We began cleaning and preparing the land. Then, we began to plant. More plants and more plants. We began to plant coco, and it was successful. We always buy a little by a little. I would like to see everything beautifully planted. I would like to see it all grown and beautifully planted. I would like to see them all grow. Everything that is grown will be used for the future. When I was young I learned how to do all of it, we had nearly everything. We had chickens, cows, horses. We didn’t have a lot, but a little. We always had to take care of them. I enjoyed it. If you look there at the Villa Soleada Children’s Home farm, there is an orchard. We are growing many things. I would like to see them grow big.

I am grateful for this organization because when I came to live here. Shin offered to help by building a school for my children. I am very grateful for the Villa Soleada Bilingual School and education my children are receiving through this organization. I thought, “If they offer a hand, I will also offer my hand to this organization.” I am motivated to see my children succeed. It has changed my children’s future. I am very grateful for this organization with all my heart. With this, I am motivated to focus and work harder at my job.”

“Mi nombre es Lindolfo Vasquez. Yo soy de Morazán, Yoro. Soy de una familia pobre, humilde, pero luchadora. Que hemos luchado, y hemos salido adelante y gracias a mi papá y a mi mamá, que en paz descanse. Ellos nos inculcaron valores para que nosotros crecieramos como buenas persona y luchar por nuestra propia vida. Fuimos luchadores hasta el sol de hoy. Fuimos una familia de 15 hermanos. Ya varios ya no están, ya murieron.

Vivo aquí en B.. Este, pues, anteriormente, trabajaba aquí como cajero en una gasolinera. De allí, en 2014, hablé con Shin, entonces el me dijo que si, me podría integrar aqui al hogar para ayudarle lo que era en cuestion de fútbol con los chicos. Entonces si, me fue gustando esto y decidir renunciar allá mi trabajo que tenía para venir a incorporarme aquí a la organización. Que ya se formó ya casi todo el hogar. Entonces cuando Yalena habló conmigo y me dijo si quería quedarme trabajando aquí. Entonces siempre he trabajado con jóvenes sí, jóvenes en situaciones critica, jóvenes que necesitaban ayuda por la droga, dando charlas de formación por parte de la iglesia católica, entonces vi que este una oportunidad para también ayudar los niños de aquí del hogar para que no fueran creciendo así nomás, sino con una formación adecuada y con valores y todo eso. Me siento satisfecho, me fue integrando más, trabajando más en general en el hogar, hasta el sol de hoy que sigo apoyando.

Me fue gustando porque soy alguien que es fanático del fútbol, jugué al fútbol, entreno chicos de fútbol en la escuela, yo fui el entrenador. Y desde allí me fue gustando. Y cuando vine aquí al hogar y vi que todos los chicos que estaban les gusta el fútbol. Y eso es lo que me gusta, trabajar con ellos. Y la otra cosa que me gustaba mucho, mi familia trabajamos mucho de agricultura, y eso me ha gustado mucho pues, del primer grupo teníamos a K., E. y A.l, a todos les gustaba mucho lo de la agricultura, entonces para mi, era como algo muy bonito pues. Algo muy bonito de explicar a ellos como se hace esto de la agricultura. Y eso me ayudaba en parte. Y me gusta mucho pues como jugamos y todo eso me fue enamorando del hogar, de trabajar, me fui enamorando de mi trabajo y hasta el sol de ahora, me gusta hacerlo.

Entonces cuando vine dije, no, aquí se puede hacer algo. Aquí se puede sembrar algo. Entonces se lo mencione a Yalena, preparemos el terreno pues me dijo la parte de ver la tierra y conocí que era bueno para las plantas y que era buena para, mas que todo para plátano así, como está sembrando plátano y limpie, de tener una tierra muy limpia. Entonces comencé a sembrar. Más plantas, más plantas, sembramos coco y era bueno. Siempre que compraramos un poco mas, mas que todo en la plantación pues, para mantener, me gustaria ver todo, todo plantado, todo lo bonito; me gustaria ver todo cultivado. Todo que se siembra se utiliza para el futuro, verdad. Porque de mi infancia también me enseñaron todo eso y en casa habia de todo, habia un cerdo, gallinas, caballos, y vacas. No bastante pero poquito, pero siempre manteníamos, si. Entonces me fue gustando. Entonces yo miro pues. Si tu puedes ver allí hay un huerto, ya tenemos varias cosas pues. Y entonces si yo me gustaria ver mas grande esto.

Estoy agradecido al organización pues cuando yo vine aquí, este, Shin me ofreció ayudar con la escuela para mis hijos. Y va a la escuela bilingüe y estoy muy agradecido por la educación de mis hijos que le da la organización y yo pienso: “si ellos me ofrecen una mano a mi, yo tambien voy a ofrecer la mano a la organización”. Entonces me tiene motivado, ver que si mis hijos están estudiando y ver que si se ha superado, han cambiado el futuro de mis hijos, gracias a la organización, yo muy agradecido de todo corazón. Y de esta forma yo también me enfoco mas en mi trabajo porque eso me ayuda mas a trabajar.”
