In today’s video, we wanted to highlight Maria Suyapa, our country director in training here in Honduras with the best volunteer abroad programs.
Here are some random facts about Maria. Her favorite movie is Titanic and her favorite singer is Shakira.
During her free time, she loves to read book especially novels by the Brazilian author Paulo Coelho.
Her favorite TV show is Dancing With The Starts. And Pizza Hut is her favorite restaurant in town.
Maria has overcome many hurdles in her life inspiring many young people around her to do the same. She grew up in a children’s home with 50 other children living there until she turned 18.
As a teenager, Maria received a scholarship from the most prestigious high school in the city and graduate with honors. When she finishes high school, our organization granted her a scholarship to study International Relations at Unitech, the most prestigious University in all of Honduras.
In 2012, she became the first girl in our scholarship program to graduate from college.
While in school, she had spent hours helping our organization raise funds to help other girls like her in Honduras to go to college.
She was also an active member of her universities model UN and travel to a model UN conference in Mexico to represent Honduras during her senior year.
In 2013, we hired Maria to help us in the office where she spent several months answering phone calls and months from supporters all over the world. We were so impressed with her incredible work ethic and leadership skills, we decided to promote her to become the country director of our organization here is Honduras. As the country director, Maria will be in charge of all our best volunteer abroad programs and our entire team in Honduras as the on the ground leader.
Currently, Maria is going through an intensive training period where she is learning advanced team management skills and perfecting her English.
We looked forward to all of our volunteers meeting Maria one day here in Honduras.
